Show or hide a field

Use a visibility condition when a follow-up question applies only to certain answers.

Example: show details only when needed

  1. Add a Single Choice field named needs_follow_up with choices Yes and No.
  2. Add a Long Text field named follow_up_details; leave it optional initially.
  3. Open Conditions > Show or Hide field.
  4. Configure the condition so follow_up_details is shown when needs_follow_up equals Yes.
  5. Open Edit conditions and give the condition a recognizable description if the editor permits it.
  6. Preview twice: select No and confirm the details field is hidden; select Yes and confirm it appears.
  7. If details are required when shown, test that the form prevents submission only on the Yes path until details are provided.

Expected result

Only respondents who select Yes see and, if configured, must complete the follow-up field. Do not hide a field that is still universally required.

Multiple fields

To reveal a section, add all of its fields first, then choose Show or Hide field and select Show multiple (or Hide multiple) with the same condition. This changes visibility only; it does not add, remove, reset, or submit fields. Test every target, including required targets, on both branches. If a hidden required field still blocks submission in your version, make it conditionally optional or move it to the visible branch.

Operators and matching

Choose AND when every statement must be true (for example, country is US and age is at least 18); choose OR when any statement is sufficient. is empty and is filled are useful for optional text and upload controls. Text comparisons follow the field’s stored value; choice labels and stored values should therefore be verified in Preview.
